Marcis Presents the Honorary Medal of World NGO Day to Mayor of Taichung, Taiwan
Mayor Lu Shiow-yean of Taichung City has made history by becoming the first mayor in East Asia to receive the prestigious Honorary Medal of World NGO Day. This remarkable achievement highlights her dedication to promoting civil society and non-governmental organizations in Taichung and beyond.Since taking office, Mayor Lu has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to fostering a thriving NGO community. Her administration has established headquarters and platforms for both local and international NGOs, creating a supportive environment for these organizations to flourish. Under her leadership, Taichung has seen a significant increase in NGO participation, with over 3,900 organizations now serving the city and its residents.One of Mayor Lu’s most notable accomplishments was the successful mobilization of approximately 5,000 local and international volunteers for the 31st Taiwan Lantern Festival in February.
